FPE FAQs

Do I have to submit the exact number of image submissions every week?

No. You are welcome to submit anything up to your image number per week. The plans and services are here for you to enjoy a great experience, with peaceful enjoyment without any added pressure of must do’s.

If I don’t submit the the max number of photos for my plan in a week, is there any carry-over to next week?

Unfortunately no. Doug has carefully arranged the max number of images of your plan to coincide with other responsibilities of the week. Special circumstances for this will be considered however, and looked at on a case by case basis.

Will my photos be used publicly by you for any blog posts, promotions, or any online advertisement work?

By default, all of your photos are private. If your image(s) would fit perfectly with a certain post or ad, Doug will reach out and ask your permission if it’s ok. It’s incredibly useful to Doug if you are open for this, and likely a family honor.

What protections do my images have? Copyrights?

By U.S. law, any artwork that is created instantly enjoys the full protection of copyright. Doug or FPE will never sell or assist in the sale of any image you make for any commercial sale whatsoever. Doug is adamant about this, as he is a long time professional photographer, artist and journalist, who cares immensely about image rights and respect.

Are there limits on what type of photos you will edit?

Doug edits most every type of image. There are of course exceptions, such as scenes depicting violence or evidence of hate crimes, or other extremely hurtful situations, which of course Doug won’t edit and would have to report. So don’t send it! Better yet, don’t do it. Please speak up if you see something.

Canceling or Switching Memberships?

Yes, you are free to cancel anytime though we’ll be sad to you go! Your account will still maintain the charge for the month, but you will receive no further billing after that. If you elect to begin with your subscription again, we would set up a new billing routine and continue from there. For changing your plan, your billing will finish the rest of your cycle, and any overlap after signing up for your new plan will be credited in your online gallery archive for products and downloads.

Photo Class / Mentorship FAQs

How do I extend my classes or mentorship into another term?

The classes Doug offers go by a single investment structure, so you simply log in to your account on this site and make another purchase. We’ll then go from there into another round of teaching. Any password protected online archive of your imagery will still be there through your carryover.

What are main differences between the weekly photo class and a mentorship?

The weekly classes are geared more towards the beginning and intermediate photographers who are getting used to their equipment and finding their visual voice. Lessons are 25% shorter at 45 minutes and the session goes for one month. Mentorships are designed to be more rigorous, with hour long meetings taking place over six weeks. We’ll also be targeting a concrete end product with the mentorship, whether it’s a specific portfolio or project to shop around for publication or exhibition. Novice users are welcome to the mentorship as well, if they own a dedicated work ethic and want the most out of learning photography with Doug.

What equipment do I need in order to take a class or mentorship with you?

As the classes and mentorships are geared towards those with hungry paths in photography, it’s advised that you have a camera, film or digital, with fully manual control options, as that is the base from which all the other functions are learned. A computer, steady internet connection, and a pen + paper for our Zoom talks round out the list.

What is the payment structure like?

By default, the payments for classes and mentorships are taken up front, to ensure your place on the schedule and indicate a sign of your commitment to learning. In this way, it’s much like taking a class at school. For many other workshops or classes, this is done in the same way. Funds for learning with Doug are non refundable, and if something unexpected comes up that would interrupt or greatly hinder your abilities to start or complete the class, than Doug will be able to give credit for future learning when you or someone you choose will be able to undertake the learning experience again.

I would like to give your teaching services as a gift, how does that work?

You would carefully select which learning option seems to fit best, or contact Doug to advise on that, before going through and booking the lesson(s) on the “Learn” page of this website. Following that, send along a note through the contact page or shoot Doug an email with the recipient’s email address, so that is on file. Doug will of course wait for you to deliver the good news to your person, before the teaching rolls forward.

The overview of the learning structure mentions Zoom recording for future reference - is it possible to opt out?

Though Doug highly encourages the recording to take place for your reference, and is careful to make sure that each session has a unique URL for privacy, he will of course be happy to not record the lesson if that is your preference. If this is your path, please be sure to take careful notes during the Zoom call, so that references, image feedback, reading sources and all other info is recorded.
