About Doug
Douglas Despres is an American photographer (b. 1981), based out of San Francisco Bay and born and raised in small town New Hampshire. His work over the past 18 years stems from the documentary tradition and weaves through portrait, photojournalism and lifestyle. He aided coverage to Standing Rock camp life during the 2016 pipeline protest and created vignettes of small family owned tobacco farms in Cuba’s far West Pinar del Rio province in 2018.
He has photographed for four newspapers, interned at the Maine Media Workshops, taught film and digital photography classes on the grounds of UC Berkeley, earned an art degree from the University of South Florida and created visuals from over 600 weddings around the U.S. to be recognized within the world’s top 30. Doug has imagery in public and private collections around the United States and has volunteered as a photographer with the American Red Cross.
In March 2020, Doug’s business abruptly shifted due to the C-19 pandemic. His usual location based assignment work turned online, where he focuses on teaching and creating fine art prints. This is also the time that FPE was born, which launched in April of 2020.
